Volunteer at The Lab

The Lab is currently looking for volunteer mentors and guest artists to share their passion with young people in St. Paul Public Schools. Do you have a cool skill, profession, or artistic talent you’d like to share? We’d love to hear from you.

Volunteer Mentors

Volunteers with a Student in the Writer's LabVolunteer Mentors work with individual or small groups of students on a variety of on-going projects. Volunteer opportunities include both individual & small group mentorships; time commitments vary from once-monthly to eight-weeks.

Examples of projects include:

POETRY
poetry, creative writing, spoken word, performance

VISUAL ARTS
art, crafts, photography, fiber arts

TECHNOLOGY
website design, computer, film and sound technology

EXPERIENTIAL WELLNESS
yoga, meditation, theatre and physical well-being

LEADERSHIP
post-secondary planning, life skills, and service learning

Guest Artists

des_carnageGuest Artists perform or speak about their work to a larger group of students at our morning Enrichment programming. This can be a one-time engagement, but often guest artists are interested in continuing to mentor groups of students. Depending upon current funding, stipends might be available.

Examples of Enrichment shows include:

  • Hip hop and spoken word performance
  • African drumming
  • Storytelling
  • Hip hop dance
  • Inspirational speaking
  • Theatre performance
