Change Gonna Come (W. 7th Poet)
Filed Under poetry | Leave a Comment
It’s been too hard living
But a change gonna come
What’s keeping me from being someone?
I dare to dream (my spirits)
The positive things about me
Some people don’t see
They just think of me being a thug who gets off
Hurting people’s feelings and dreams
As a human being myself (I hurt)
My thought process gets crushed
Things in my short life time been messed up
No role model around for me to look up to in the physical form
Just another Tupac CD or DVD to learn history from
Born 9-23-90
That was the day momma told me to
Be something in life
It’s already in God’s plan
All I have to do is place myself in the right places
Then, the world can be
In the palm of my hand.

Long Lost Friends (W. 7th Poet)
Filed Under poetry | Leave a Comment
Long lost friends,
Eye may never see again
I wonder when the next time we can meet
But I do not know when
Don’t judge
Don’t talk
Don’t say bad things
Cuz they R still people who
Got held back from their dreams
Walk in the shoes of a soldier
Who never gave up
Even when the odds are against us
We will come out with R head ups
There are many people
Who got held back
From their dreams.

Our mission at Pet Haven is: to rescue and re-home dogs and cats, spay and neuter to reduce overpopulation, promote responsible guardianship through educational programs, and advocate on behalf of companion animals… Read more

My Name Says (Hazel Park poet)
Filed Under poetry | Leave a Comment
My name says
She is very confident
Doesn’t care what others have to say.
See what lies ahead of me.
I don’t know but I know I have strength and power with a bright future
And no one can take my special gifts away from me.
I see haters always try to bring the worst out of me and get the best of me
but I tell haters to fall back
Cuz I’m doin’ me
And trying to succeed in life throughout the good times and the awful times.
I’m tryin’ to be smart and think about the positive things in life
I’m tryin’ my hardest to keep the negative things off my mind
My name says
She is succeeding cuz there is no way I got time to be failing.

National Poetry Month

Is is trite to say that poetry has saved my life? Or maybe, it is completely grandiose. Either way, it is true for me. It was 12 years ago, at the age of 30, when I first dipped my toe into the waters of poetry. Immediately, my heart was soothed, my emotional internal world felt at ease, understood…
